HabitsMost of our lives are controlled by habits. Just think of all the things we do during the day. We don't think about most of them - we just do them without much thought at all. We need habits in order to get things done without giving our brains too much to think about. But some habits can get in the way of success. We need to figure out what they are and then find ways to change them or get rid of them altogether. Here are some habits:Aiming to make it 'just in time' for school, appointments, homework, etc. The result is that you are often late and usually stressed. This is a common habit and difficult to break. The alternative good habit is to always be early. Plan to arrive early by having something constructive to do while you're waiting. Get into the habit of doing homework immediately - get it out of the way and see how you feel. Enjoy the feeling of having time on your hands. Doing pointless things, such as watching TV shows that you're not really interested in, playing computer games just because you always do. The alternative good habit is to plan your time. Set goals for how you use your time; decide to do things that you really enjoy as well as the work. Don't waste time on useless stuff! Reacting to people in negative ways. What happens if someone in your family complains to you? Do you think before you reply, or just say something out of habit? Does it work? If not, it's not a good habit. Think of what you could say differently if the situation comes up again. There are lots of examples - I'm sure you can think of many more. Try this: Look at your day and figure out how many habits you have. Ask yourself if they are useful - do they help you in your quest for success? If not, think of what you gain from having them - there's usually some gain, even if it doesn't help in the long run. Figure out how you could turn them around and make them into positive habits.
