Acting and being physicalActing and physical activities wake up the brain, get blood flowing around the body, feel great, and release happy chemicals in the brain. What more could you want from a learning activity? If you sit still for a long period, your body and mind tend to seize up - that's my experience. Here are some tips: 1. If you do your study at home in your own room, arrange it so that your learning materials are in different parts. For example, you could have your memory maps hanging on the walls. At your desk, do the learning and visualisation of what you want to put on the map, then get up and add it. Something as simple as this will help stop you getting mentally and physically stale. 2. Get up every 5 minutes, stretch, shake your hands above your head, touch your toes, skip... do whatever. You'll be amazed at how much extra energy you feel while you work! 3. If you use the 'teaching' learning activity, then get up and act like you're a teacher in front of class. Give an imaginary talk on the subject you're learning. 4. Act out the stuff you're learning. Imagine being a blood cell careering around the body; what do you see? Imagine being a character you have to study in History. Act out what they did. Imagine being a rock as it erodes, gets washed into the sea, gets compressed, ends up underground and comes out in a volcano. I guarantee you'll remember it!
